And, thanks in part to a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to her historically Black university, she’s asking questions and getting some answers. Smith is one of five post-graduate students at Morgan State University in Baltimore who are benefitting from a federal grant.

Morgan State Could Get $2M in Federal Funding for New Artificial Intelligence Research Center
Morgan State University could receive $2 million to develop a new artificial intelligence research center under legislation advanced in the U.S. House of Representatives last week. The legislation — requested by Maryland congressman, Dutch Ruppersberger — was passed in the Commerce, Justice and Science Related Agencies (CJS) subcommittee and must now go before the House Committee on Appropriations for consideration.
NASA, HBCUs Partner On Program To Increase Diversity In The Geosciences
A partnership between NASA and several area HBCUs is looking to increase diversity in the geosciences by providing paid internships with hands-on research experiences. It’s called Student Airborne Science Activation, or SaSa. It’s an eight-week paid internship that will allow 25 students from the six partner HBCUs, including Morgan State University, to work with and learn from NASA experts.
